Your story
Everyone who follows Jesus has a story worth telling. Answer these questions in your own words. They’ll help you say what God has done, whether to one friend over coffee or to the church on a Sunday.
Saved as you type, on this device (and your account if you’re signed in).
What was your life like before you trusted Jesus? What were you looking for, or relying on?
If you grew up as a Christian, think instead about when your faith became your own.
How did you come to trust Jesus? Who or what did God use: a person, a moment, a verse, a hard time?
Be specific. A real detail is worth more than a general statement.
What difference has Jesus made? What has changed, and what’s still hard?
Honesty helps. People connect with real struggles more than with a perfect ending.
Is there a verse that means a lot to you? Why?
Optional, but a verse can give your story a centre.
Tips for telling it well
- Aim for about three minutes out loud — roughly 400 words.
- Keep Jesus at the centre. It’s his story as much as yours.
- Avoid church jargon. If a friend wouldn’t understand a word, say it another way.
- You don’t need a dramatic story. A quiet, steady faith is a wonderful story too.
- Practise a one-minute version for when someone asks, “Why do you go to church?”
If someone asked “Why are you a Christian?”, what would you say in about a minute?
Read it through
Share it with the church
Stories of what God is doing encourage everyone. If you’d like, send yours to the church team. Someone will read it before it appears on Stories from the church, and may tidy it a little. They won’t publish anything without reading it first.
