How to start reading the Bible

Where to begin when it feels like a big book.

The Bible isn't one book — it's a library of sixty-six, written over centuries. That's why starting at page one and pushing through often stalls somewhere in Leviticus.

A better start: **begin with one of the Gospels.** Mark is the shortest and moves quickly. John is more reflective. Either gives you Jesus in his own words and actions, which is the centre of the whole thing.

After that, try Acts to see what happened next, then a letter like Philippians, then the Psalms when you want words for how you actually feel.

Some practical advice:

Read a little, often. Ten minutes most days beats an hour once a fortnight.

Don't panic when something is confusing. Note it and keep going — or bring it to a group.

Ask what it says about God before you ask what it says about you.

The Bible tab in this app has the full text, and reading plans that give you a passage a day so you're not deciding each morning where to start.
