Psalms 75

Introducing PsalmsWho wrote it, when, why, and what to look for as you read

73:1–75:10

The seeming success of the wicked (Psalm 73) and God's apparent rejection of his people (Psalm 74) raise questions about his justice. God rules the entire world and decides when to judge (Psalm 75).

75:1–10

This hymn of thanksgiving includes two direct messages from God that assure us of his justice (Psalm 75:2–3, 10). The Lord warns arrogant people who defy him, promising to humble them by force (Psalm 75:4–8). Together, the community and the psalmist give thanks for God's character (Psalm 75:1, 9).

75:2–8

The Lord will bring justice in his own time.

75:4–5

The wicked proudly defy heaven, where God lives. By boasting, they claim that they are wiser than God.

75:6

No creature has the right to rebel against its Creator.
