Big questions

How can a loving God judge people?

We often assume love and judgement are opposites. But think of someone who has been badly wronged. A God who shrugged at injustice wouldn’t be loving; he’d be indifferent. Because God loves, he is angry at evil.

The Bible says God is “slow to anger” and “not wishing that any should perish”. He has done everything to rescue us, even coming to bear the judgement himself in Jesus.

In the end, God gives people what they most deeply choose. Those who want God will have him for ever. Those who refuse him will not be forced.

From the Bible

Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

Romans 2:4

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9
