Pray for the world

One country a day, so that over the year you pray for the whole world.

1. For its leaders

That they would govern with justice, wisdom and care for the weakest.

   1 Timothy 2:1–2

I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence.

   1 Timothy 2:1–2

2. For the church there

For Christians to be faithful, united and full of love, especially where following Jesus is costly.

   Ephesians 3:16–19

that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

   Ephesians 3:16–19

3. For those who haven’t heard

That people would hear the good news of Jesus, and respond.

   Romans 10:14–15

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”

   Romans 10:14–15

4. For people in need

For the poor, the sick, refugees, and anyone facing war, disaster or injustice.

   Psalm 146:7–9

who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. Yahweh frees the prisoners. Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind. Yahweh raises up those who are bowed down. Yahweh loves the righteous. Yahweh preserves the foreigners. He upholds the fatherless and widow, but the way of the wicked he turns upside down.

   Psalm 146:7–9

5. For people from there near you

For anyone from this country living in Cheltenham or the UK: students, workers, families.

   Leviticus 19:34

The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you lived as foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.

   Leviticus 19:34
