What happens when we die?
The Bible says death is real and serious, but it is not the end. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.”
For Christians, death means being “with Christ”, which Paul says is “far better”. And that isn’t the final chapter: one day Jesus will return, the dead will be raised, and God will make a new heaven and a new earth.
That hope doesn’t remove grief, but it changes it. Christians grieve, but “not as those who have no hope”.
From the Bible
25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. 26Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:25–26
21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22But if I live on in the flesh, this will bring fruit from my work; yet I don’t know what I will choose. 23But I am in a dilemma between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
Philippians 1:21–23
